Center Hardware Becomes Design Center (and Hardware Store)

Lyon & Billard Lumber Company, a long-time Connecticut firm, has moved their Home Design Center to 1272 Farmington Avenue in Berlin. A ribbon-cutting was held on March 29th to celebrate the center. This move has brought a great asset to Berlin and has completely changed the look and feel of the facility.

Formerly Center Hardware, Lyon & Billard took the facility and made major renovations including the creation of the Design Center, which was previously in an adjacent town.  The hardware store is still in place, but it is now in a smaller space in the rear section of the building. The Design Center is about 4,500 square feet with 5,000 square feet making up the retail store, power equipment sales/service as well as a large outdoor lumberyard.

“We’re so pleased that Lyon & Billard made such a huge investment to stay in the town of Berlin,” said Chris Edge, economic development director for the town. “They went from one of the less attractive buildings on Farmington (Avenue) to one of the most.”

Lyon & Billard has been in business since 1847, and is family owned and operated. They have 5 locations in Connecticut including; Meriden, Cheshire, East Hampton, Plainfield and here in Berlin.

Lyon & Billard will be hosting their annual home show at the Durham Fairgrounds on April 8th and 9th. Admission and parking are both free.
